Not certain why would information technology exist required to purchase switch,
If it's a new 9200/9300 (which will shortly supercede the 2960X/3850) purchasers have to compulsory buy a Dna licence.
To activate a DNA licence both the purchaser and the end user(!) MUST have a Cisco software business relationship.
I've been going through this hurting myself recently. Whilst I appreciate the benefits of DNA (basically DNA turns an IOS switch into something that has Meraki like management for analytics and cloud based SD-WAN and SDN) Cisco have made it ridiculously difficult to simply purchase a switch and activate the licence features.
To me if Cisco want to make IOS switches like Meraki switches then why non merely pre-install the licences and take the buyer/end user actuate the licence via the net.
I agree with Ray, if this is the manner it'south going I'll cease buying and recommending Cisco to anyone I speak to. They need to brand the on-boarding process easier and it MUST NOT be compulsory. If I desire to purchase a single switch with features, I shouldn't be compelled to have a Cisco account of whatsoever type if I don't desire ane.

I want to buy a switch, but not from Amazon or any other not-authorized reseller. I don't want a gray-market place switch made for the European union with a 60-day warranty. I want the USA model with its warranty.
In order to purchase from Ingram Micro or Tech Information, one has to be "authorized" to sell Cisco products.
Specifically, I am looking at either the Cisco SG250-18-K9-NA or the SG350-twenty-K9-NA model, whichever has the faster throughput. If I am not mistaken, those models have a lifetime warranty and exercise Not require ownership a warranty like the Catalyst line requires. I also desire to be able to download firmware updates that don't require paying to receive them, which I can do now with my two SG300 series switches.
If I cannot get a Cisco, I'll go with the HP equivalent. I **actually like** the actress ports on Cisco SG series; if I purchase a 24-port switch, I get 24-ports that match my patch panel, plus ports to connect my firewall or an uplink cable and non accept a port that matches the patch console. They also number their ports ameliorate: 1-12 on tiptop, thirteen-24 on the lesser row. It makes installations cleaner, at least for me. I hate numbering with odd on acme and even on the bottom.

How-do-you-do Greg, I was formerly a channel marketing managing director for a major PC make. Generally, the channel for companies like Cisco go from manufacturer to distributors, then from distributors to resellers. Some of the distributors are also resellers while others aren't. The manufacturers similar Cisco can control through agreements who can buy from the distributors and what volumes are necessary, and it's in the distributor'southward best interest non to sell direct to terminate-users if they want to proceed from competing with the resellers who purchase from them. This likewise protects margin for everyone in the sales channel, so product doesn't finish up on the street for hundreds of dollars less.
It'southward been many years since I was working with channel partners, but about 20 years ago Tech Information and Ingram were distributors that did not resell to the finish customer. It sounds similar what you're attempting to do is get an authorized reseller (buying from distribution) though y'all'll be the finish-user of the product.
Unless you're a VAR who resells Cisco products to finish-users, information technology is unlikely you'll run into the volumes and weather necessary to purchase direct from distribution. For case, you may accept to have a NAICS or SIC lawmaking of retailer/integrator, purchase a minimum volume per quarter from distribution, and accept an advert budget and sales team of a certain minimum size. Y'all may also have to have 1 or more certified Cisco professionals on your staff. This is somewhat similar to Microsoft's Gilt Partners, where you accept to have knowledgeable staff representing the product to cease-users, and can provide back up instead of anybody calling the manufacturer or benefactor straight.
If Tech Data or Ingram won't sell to you, information technology'southward probably a sign you're trying to purchase from the incorrect place in the distribution channel. I looked at Ingram's site and on the home folio it reads "Become an Ingram Reseller" which is a sign they are still at the distributor level and working with resellers. Tech Data's site reads "Global Benefactor..." which again indicates their customers are resellers.
If you lot're an finish user, you cannot buy from distribution.

@Dzee,
I was a Cisco partner for many years, and then business slowed to a crawl and no one was buying, then I didn't care about letting that sideslip. If their dang spider web site would work, this would non exist an issue. The But real outcome here is whether or not anyone is having the same problems with getting to the www.cisco.com/become/partnerregistration web site. That'south all I demand...to get to it, get approved, and be on my merry way. In other words, is anyone else seeing the "This ipa.cloudapps.cisco.com page can't be institute" error, or is information technology just me?
Regarding your "It sounds similar what you're attempting to do is become an authorized reseller (buying from distribution) though y'all'll be the cease-user of the production" annotate, no, that is incorrect. I have reseller accounts with Ingram, Tech Data, and Synnex, and I purchase all kinds of stuff from them to resell to my clients. It'due south simply that Cisco wants 1 to jump through hoops to purchase a product. When I bought my ain SG300-10-PP and SG300-28 for my dwelling/office, I bought from Amazon. I have had no problems with firmware updates, and I don't care about warranty. They both take been in service over a year, and if either one dies, I tin can have another in a twenty-four hours. I cannot have that aforementioned mental attitude when it comes to my clients, hence my desire to buy "officially" and accept the lifetime warranty.

Mike,
Trust me, I am seriously leaning towards my original "If I cannot get authorized, I'll only purchase an HP switch and be done!" comment, except I don't know of an equivalent HPE switch to the SG250-18 or the SG350-20.

Wonderful! Several people at Tech Data and Cisco have sent me the bad link.
Also, regarding your "But call 1-800-553-6387 and a Cisco person will assistance y'all with your society" comment, have you lot actually tried that? I did not call that number, but I have been in contact with "Maria Alvarez, Americas Commercial, Specialized Americas Consultant" and it was fabricated CRYSTAL CLEAR that Cisco DOES Not sell to stop users direct. I asked over and over again if an end user could just go purchase a switch from an reseller, and was told that the only way to buy was through distribution. I was on CDW's site for fun, and it showed the switch. I asked Maria if my end user could just go to that link and buy it, and I was told that it would crave setting up a CDW business relationship and getting authorized to buy it.
Cisco is in the process of looking at my business relationship. By the time it is likely to become approved, I'll demand to buy an HPE switch. I have never seen a company make it so difficult to sell their products.

What is so odd about the whole thing is that I already have a Cisco Partner login, and I tin get to the Partner Self Service page and look at my Partner Contour.

Craig,
But for fun, I called that number and was told that Cisco DOES NOT sell to end users. "Just call 1-800-553-6387 and a Cisco person will assist you with your order" only results in Cisco wanting to claw me upwards with a reseller.
He confirmed that those SG250 and SG350 switches have a "limited lifetime" warranty (on who knows hat), a one-twelvemonth warranty and the fans and power supplies (the ones I want are fanless anyway), and 1 twelvemonth on firmware updates. For that, I may as well buy from Amazon.

HP does similar nonsense with their printers. If you're reselling, yous have to purchase through the distribution aqueduct and you have to be "authorized". If you buy from a retailer such as Amazon, there is no warranty if yous resell it. (yous would have the warranty, not your customer)

@Da_Schmoo,
Skillful indicate almost HP printers.
The more than I think about information technology, I really don't retrieve the warranty is that big of an issue, because unless the switch is a cheap knock-off, it probable will last several years. My first Cisco switch is an SG300-10PP-K9-NA bought in June 2016 on Amazon and information technology's doing just fine. It worked so well that I bought an SG300-28 for my home function. I ability my UniFi stuff from the SG300-x-PP and have had zero issues with either one.

@Da_Schmoo (or anyone else),
I need to look for an HPE switch the rough equivalent of the SG250-xviii or SG350-twenty or SG350-24. I come across the 1920 series in that cost range, only lots of folks here trash that model. I don't know if it'south because information technology is really a slow piece of junk, or if they simply hate information technology considering of its management interface. I had an 1820 that I had no trouble with managing, and information technology was enough fast for my minor home office network.
I would honey to hear from folks in the Pocket-size business (to me, that'southward under 25 users) Information technology guys virtually what they think is a good HPE switch. I probably should offset a new mail.
Gregg

I merely have one HP 1920 and it works fine. I accept a couple dozen 1910's and a handful of 1950's and they work fine as well.
The merely issue with these is the CLI is very express and about management has to be washed via the GUI. There is a secret "backstairs" password to the CLI on these boxes which tin can easily be googled which opens up a more traditional CLI only I think fifty-fifty that is a little limited.
That said, I have no issues using the GUI'south.

This customer has a 5-twelvemonth-old Netgear JGS516 switch, so I think an HPE 1920 will be step up.
Problem solved. I just ordered an HPE 1920S from Ingram Micro for the client. No special song and dance needed.
